Union Hospital Foundation has launched its 2011 Friends of Union Hospital Annual Drive. Research of the hospital's priority needs have determined that the campaign will benefit renovations of Labor & Delivery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit areas in Union West. With over 1,500 births annually, restorations will nearly triple the space for Maternity Services, create a more holistic and soothing environment and provide the upgraded technology necessary to ensure efficient and quality care to mothers and infants.
Annual Drive Chair, John Dinkel said that the Annual Drive exists to help meet the emerging needs of the hospital and numerous initiatives have become a reality because of the support of the Friends of Union Hospital.
Thanks to "Friends" we are Changing Lives & Saving Lives
In the last two decades, Friends of Union Hospital have contributed $2.4 million to help Union Hospital meet its emerging needs. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our past donors. Because of their generosity through the years, the hospital has been able to address numerous priority needs which include:
- funding programs for mammograms to help women detect breast cancer
- enhancing treatment of cancer patients through the purchase of much-needed equipment
- providing scholarship assistance to local students to pursue health careers
- helping patients with their cardiac rehabilitation and testing
- enabling children in need of therapy through Pediatric Therapy
- Enhancing Care for our Smallest Patients
The focus of the Union West renovation has now shifted to the Labor & Delivery and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit areas on the main level. Both areas, which are part of the Women & Children Services Department, have been caring for women and their infants since 1892.
The renovated space will host eight private labor and delivery rooms, each equipped with its own restroom, two large rooms, along with a private patient recovery room, will be designated for mothers delivering by cesarean section and triage will increase from three to nine rooms. In addition, the NICU will expand to15 rooms, three being private.
Upgrades in technology will allow the nursing staff to continue to deliver quality care effectively and hospital renovations will provide an increased level of comfort, privacy and advanced care throughout the labor process.
"We want our families to know that when they come to have their baby at Union Hospital they will have all the comforts of home," said Dr. Joanne Goldbort, Director of Maternity and Child Services.
The mission of the Union Hospital Foundation is to support advances in medical care that benefit the patients served by Union Hospital and initiatives that promote the health and wellness for those residents who live in the Wabash Valley. The Foundation fulfills this mission by raising charitable gifts and grants, providing effective stewardship for gifts received and by awarding grants to Union Hospital and to select other organizations through which improvements in medical care and community health are realized. The Union Hospital Foundation receives charitable support from individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations who share the Foundation's vision for a healthy, vital community.
Union Hospital Foundation would like to thank all of the individuals who have supported the 2011 Annual Drive.
